Calling all UChurch men (and friends!). Here’s your chance to join your brothers for an exhilarating cross-country ski trip to Bryant Creek Cabin in Kananaskis. We will ski in (about 5 hours) on Saturday, April 21 and stay over night in the old cabin, then ski out the next day. During this adventure, we will:

• Bond and support our brothers!

It’s hard enough to train kids to behave, but good behavior isn’t what Jesus calls for in the Bible. God wants hearts and souls that are shaped in vibrant faith and love toward Himself and others. In Spiritual Parenting, Michelle Anthony calls us parents to depend upon God for our children’s spiritual and moral development, urging us toward a heart posture of surrender and faithfulness. The end goal is vibrant faith that is passed on from one generation to another.

Parents are, by the power of God’s Spirit, to depend on God in order to create home environments that God can use to beckon our kids to Him. Isn’t it time to embrace this simple but revolutionary concept?

The first Thursday of every month, Every Nation (EN) churches around the world join together for a monthly day of corporate fasting and prayer. This is a time that unites EN churches and members to pray and ask God to open doors to the Gospel of Jesus, and as a part of EN churches, UChurch is invited to participate in this!

So please join us on Thursday, January 19 for corporate prayer. Plan to fast on that day, and come prepared in the evening to hear from God and lift up prayers to Him.

It is not surprising that throughout history, God has often called on his people to come together and humble themselves through prayer and fasting. When God’s people fast and pray, the spiritual progress becomes tangible. Nations change, revivals spark, people experience freedom on every level. It changes the future because it changes the people involved.

Thus the heads-up: prepare yourselves. As Jesus taught, you don’t go into a battle unless you have the resolve and the resources to complete it. Take the next little while to carefully think about what level of participation you can commit to regarding the fast. What type of fast can you do in the seven days? Look at your schedule and consider limiting physical and social activities so you can participate. For additional information about what you can do to prepare for next week’s fast, click here.

About Dr. Brian Miller: “Dr. Miller serves as Senior Research Analyst and consultant for Resources Development and Implementation, a Nashville based consulting company specializing in strategic planning and implementation. Dr. Miller received his BS in physics form MIT and his PhD in physics from Duke University. After finishing his PhD, he served as Academic dean for a Durham-based leadership institute. During that time, he developed training materials to assist leaders in understanding the impact of science, philosophy, and religious faith on different professions, such as business, law, and education. He also traveled internationally speaking and teaching on issues of science, faith, and culture. We are covering topics like the Father Heart of God, The Ministry and Power of Reconciliation, Next Generation Leadership, Developing Missional Communities on Campus and in Our Cities, The Intersection of Science, Faith and Culture, The Multiplication Effect of Discipleship, Spiritual Warfare and more. We are privileged to have a dynamic array of speakers traveling from Nashville and across Canada, as well as from our local church family, UChurch. The days will be packed with worship and prayer, teaching sessions, small groups and practical ministry application.

However, despite the excitement of the schedule, speakers and students, I believe this will be more than just a five day conference. For me, next week is about being part of living out a dream in my heart – to awaken a generation to the knowledge and power of the Gospel in Calgary and across Canada. For this reason, I would like to invite you to join me in praying and fasting in some capacity leading up to and during Harvest Institute as we invite God to have His way in us this week.

Day 1: Pray for an increase in faith and expectation

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” – Ephesians 3:20-21

Day 2: Pray that we experience God’s extraordinary, supernatural presence as we gather together

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

Day 3: Pray for unity among the students and 4 Canadian cities present

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:22-23

Day 4: Pray against spiritual enemies and their resistance to all we are doing

Paul says in Ephesians that we are to “stand firm [in the Lord's mighty power] against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms” Ephesians 6:10-12.

And in Romans Paul also writes: “If God is for us, who can ever be against us? … We are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us … and nothing can ever separate us from His love. Death can’t and life can’t. The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away!” Romans 8:31, 37, 38

What is Harvest Institute?

Harvest Institute is five days of Christian ministry training in five modules: devotional life, evangelism, apologetics, leadership, and practical ministry skills. It is taught by seasoned ministers who together bring the complete “five fold” ministry giftings for the equipping of the saints (Eph. 4:11-12). The Institute includes daily, prolonged prayer and worship, small group practicums, and lunch with the speakers, as well as local outreach times and ministry planning times during the week. The entire experience is best described by a past participant: “Harvest Institute is revival with instruction.”

Who should attend Harvest Institute?

Students, young adults, young professionals…any young person who has a passion to influence their peers, campus, workplace, city and nation for Christ!

What will I learn during this week?

Harvest Institute modules include:

• evangelism – Understand the central story of the world, God’s good news of Jesus Christ, and learn to communicate the gospel simply, relevantly, and powerfully.
• apologetics – Gain priceless insight into the post-modern mind of this generation, as well as biblical wisdom to handle the questions and challenges with which believers are confronted on the campus today.
• leadership – Learn the foundations of Christian leadership and how to be an influence in your sphere on your campus.
• practical skills – Be equipped with the necessary skills of effective ministry, such as leading successful small groups, making disciples, administering the baptism of the Holy Spirit and counselling.
• devotion – Be inspired in life’s highest pursuit and take home practical training to excel in the spiritual disciplines of scripture study, prayer, and fasting.

Additional components of the institute include a local group outreach, daily immersion in the Campus House of Prayer, twice-daily small group time, extended worship sets, elective classes, and a time of prophetic presbytery.

• 6:00pm connection BBQ. This BBQ is both a fun, and a crucial element of Harvest Institute. It is an opportunity to form relationships and build trust with those you will be spending the week with. The plan is to work together with the Victory Foundation to serve the community of Ogden, right here in Calgary. We will be co-leading a church service with Victory’s team, and then hosting a community BBQ in their parking lot. So don’t think for one moment that this Sunday will be a ‘day off’…we need you to come and be the church! There will be lots of opportunities for you to help out, from cooking to playing games with kids to sharing with Ogden community members who come to participate in the festivities. It’ll be a real missions trip, and without the long, uncomfortable plane ride!

Baptism is an important component of a believer’s life, an act that is symbolic of a person having been saved by God’s grace. Baptism is a physical demonstration of that which cannot be outwardly observed: the transformation that happens in the heart and soul when a person is saved.

Why the food ?
Besides my obvious need to chow down, it actually will be a ‘family’ communion meal together. The communion meal in the first centuries was never about a wafer and a thimble of grape juice, it was a full-on community meal where the believers came together to remember Christ as his ‘body’. No staring at the back of another persons head this Sunday – church begins when we face our chairs at one another!

Surprise Guest…. Needs prayer!
Yup… just learned that our opening speaker (Rice Broocks) for the Harvest Institute (Mon-Fri) has opted to change his flight. He is now getting out of bed at 5:00am Sunday, and catching the 6:30 am flight from Nashville to get in to Calgary early….… now that’s love! If all works out as per airline schedules, prayer and baggage guys, we will have the opportunity to ‘digest’ God’s words for us through Rice while munching on a dogwood sandwich !

SO… if Rice can get up that early, and our friends from Medicine Hat can drive 2.5 hrs to come to UChurch every couple of weeks(with new babies in tow)….. us Calgarians should do what we can to NOT worship Saint Mattress to long Sunday am..(how’s that for subtle !)

Greeting in the name of Yeshua our Messiah.  We would like to invite you  to a City-Wide Shavuot/Pentecost Celebration at the Dream Centre in Calgary on Saturday May 22 at 6:00 pm.  The scriptures tell us “How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell in  unity”.  Would you please consider attending  this exciting evening of Messianic praise and worship?   Rabbi Cal Goldberg will be sharing an inspirational word on the prophetic and Messianic significance of the Feast of Shavuot (Pentecost).

He previously taught contextualized theology at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt and pastored churches in Chicago and Toronto. He is one of 31 contemporary reformed theologians who  contributed to The Future of Reformed Theology and is  published in Zur Zunkunft Der Reformierten Theologie. He co-led the unit on Theological Education for Mission at the 2004 Forum of Lausanne Committee in Pattaya, Thailand and is one of the authors of “Effective Theological Education for World Evangelization” Lausanne Occasional Paper No. 57, (May 2005). Dr. Wahba serves on the Board of Directors for several international Christian organizations.

Do you long for walking in fellowship of real, godly men? Do you want to be trained? Do you want to grow in your Christ-like noble character? Well, here is your chance to start. The vision for the year ahead for us men will be discussed. Following that, we will have a candid discussion with the elders at UChurch and there will be an opportunity to ask REAL questions about real life. (Men only; no holds barred). We will then have an intentional time for the men to give an account of the season past and give an offering to the Lord. Deut. 16:16; Exod. 34:23; Exod: 23:17 We will then cap the night off by praying together in small platoons, fighting for each other’s hearts to come fully alive in Christ.

Open to ALL women, ages 14 to 100 years!
