We all have needs – physical, emotional, and spiritual. And one of the great things about being in community is that we can care for each other when we are in need. Jesus teaches that we are not only to pray for one another, but also to care for one another. If a man was to come to you and tell you that he was hungry, what would your response be? Perhaps you would pray for him, asking God to give him relief. Or maybe you would give him some money so that he could buy himself some food. Or perhaps you would invite him in to your home to eat with your family. All of these things may be great responses, but the point is that we are called to care for one another – to love others as we love ourselves.
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
~ James 2:14 – 17 ~
If you have practical needs like a place to rent or a car to borrow, maybe as a community we can help! And if you have an abundance of something that you’d like to bless someone else with, maybe someone in our community is in need of that very thing! To make your haves and needs known, post them on the UChurch Facebook page to connect with people who might have what you need, or need what you have!
And if what you need is a little different – perhaps spiritual in nature and in need of emergent prayer – visit the UChurch Prayer Chain and fill out the necessary information.
