Why the food ?
Besides my obvious need to chow down, it actually will be a ‘family’ communion meal together. The communion meal in the first centuries was never about a wafer and a thimble of grape juice, it was a full-on community meal where the believers came together to remember Christ as his ‘body’. No staring at the back of another persons head this Sunday – church begins when we face our chairs at one another!

Surprise Guest…. Needs prayer!
Yup… just learned that our opening speaker (Rice Broocks) for the Harvest Institute (Mon-Fri) has opted to change his flight. He is now getting out of bed at 5:00am Sunday, and catching the 6:30 am flight from Nashville to get in to Calgary early….… now that’s love! If all works out as per airline schedules, prayer and baggage guys, we will have the opportunity to ‘digest’ God’s words for us through Rice while munching on a dogwood sandwich !

SO… if Rice can get up that early, and our friends from Medicine Hat can drive 2.5 hrs to come to UChurch every couple of weeks(with new babies in tow)….. us Calgarians should do what we can to NOT worship Saint Mattress to long Sunday am..(how’s that for subtle !)

There will be times set aside for teaching, small groups, worship, campus house of prayer, recreational activities, outreach, prophetic, and much more. Greeting in the name of Yeshua our Messiah.  We would like to invite you  to a City-Wide Shavuot/Pentecost Celebration at the Dream Centre in Calgary on Saturday May 22 at 6:00 pm.  The scriptures tell us “How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell in  unity”.  Would you please consider attending  this exciting evening of Messianic praise and worship?   Rabbi Cal Goldberg will be sharing an inspirational word on the prophetic and Messianic significance of the Feast of Shavuot (Pentecost).

As part of this special service we would like to take an offering to help Beth Shechinah to purchase a permanent house of worship for their congregation.  They have an opportunity to purchase the building they are in and need to raise 1.3 million dollars.  We would ask you to prayerfully pray as to what you would give as a “First Fruits” offering.  The original first fruits offering was a sacrifice waved before the Lord to insure that the summer’s harvest would be bountiful.   If you are able to attend this special service we invite you to bring a first fruits offering  to “wave” before the Lord.  The wave offering has special Messianic significance.   It is an expression of Jew and Gentile coming together in a spirit of unity as one new man.

We believe that this “Pentecost Celebration” can be an expression of citywide unity and a catalyst to invite the Holy Spirit to bring transformation to our city.   In preparation for this Pentecost  Celebration we are asking you to  be fasting and praying for unity and a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will bring “Transformational Revival” to the city of Calgary.

He co-led the unit on Theological Education for Mission at the 2004 Forum of Lausanne Committee in Pattaya, Thailand and is one of the authors of “Effective Theological Education for World Evangelization” Lausanne Occasional Paper No. 57, (May 2005). Dr. Wahba serves on the Board of Directors for several international Christian organizations.

Come around 12:00 noon for horseshoes, water sports, and family time in the sunshine.  A church service will be held on the beach at 2:00, and a barbecued feast will be served at 4:30.  Please bring a salad or dessert along with you, and a cooler to keep your food fresh.  Note that this event is in place of our usual Sunday celebration at the University of Calgary; we hope to see you there!

During the week of January 30-February 5 at the University of Calgary, UChurch joined forces with multiple other Christian groups, to address issues of brokenness in our world that Jesus wants to put an end to.  Jesus and the End of… Human Slavery, Environmental Degradation, Religion, and HIV/AIDS. To hear a student’s testimony of what happened during that week, keep reading… Craig is a geology student at the University of Calgary, with a passion for Jesus and a huge heart for people…

For the past few months at the University of Calgary I have been working with a coalition of Christian groups on campus in order to plan and prepare for what we like to call ‘Jesus Week’.  Jesus Week was a campus wide event running from January 30 to February 5.  The goal was to raise Christ in order to gather all men to himself.  This was done by creating a central theme ‘Jesus and the End of…’  which had four subtopics addressed by each of the days during Jesus Week.  January 30th was the kickoff day and had a display set up in Mac hall (the central hub on campus).  People were asked openly what they wanted to see the end of.  So me responses were: animal cruelty, homework, abuse, ignorance, finals, racism, etc.  The day’s events were concluded with worship in the courtyard of Mac hall.  The following week (Monday through Thursday) saw the four main topics addressed (Jesus and the end of Human Trafficking, Environmental Degradation, Religion, and HIV/AIDS).

Various events took place throughout the week and key speakers/organizations were brought into address each of the topics, including International Justice Mission, A Rocha Canada, Bruxy Ca vey, AIDS Canada, and World Vision Canada.

It had been on my heart (and the hearts of many of my friends) to be united in prayer with our fellow Christian groups on campus.  It wasn’t random chance that my group was placed in charge of prayer during Jesus Week.  Every morning, as the others were setting up, the day was blanketed in prayer.  It was an immense comfort to those of us involved in Jesus Week to know that we had prayer support, not only from within, but also from the greater body of Christ.  We are most grateful for those who prayed for us; the week would have gone much differently without it.

From the very first day of Jesus Week it was awesome to watch the reactions of those who would pass by.  Many people would walk by and their heads would snap back to take a second look.  It was obvious that God was working on campus by the variety of reactions that we saw.  There were many individuals who were legitimately interested and had questions about the issues that were raised. As well, there were those who came forward with outright hostility and frustration.  Both of these reactions were encouraging because it showed that something was stirring inside of them.  It is the people who are paralyzed with apathy that still need much prayer.  As well, continued prayer for the seeds that were planted this week would be appreciated.

Overall, it is difficult to measure the impact of a spiritual event like this one.  However, through many interesting conversations, unity among Christian groups, and potential for more events like this in the future we saw God move.  There was a sense of peace and determination that comes with the knowledge of walking in the paththat God had set out before us.  We will continue to need prayer as we follow up with the questions that have been raised in the hearts of people on campus.  For the days ahead we will continue to seek God’s will and move in whichever direction He has for us next.

On March 13-15th we will be taking time to relax, rejuvenate, and respond to God’s voice in our marriages. And what better place to get away to than Banff….

From January 30-February 5 at the University of Calgary, we are banding together with IVCF, the Navs, C4C, and multiple student groups and chaplains associated with the multi-faith chaplaincy, to address issues of brokenness in our world that Jesus wants to put an end to. Join us, as people passionate about justice lead us through four global issues that Jesus cares deeply about and brings them to our doorstep.

The cries of the oppressed and the groans of this Earth have become too loud to ignore. We must uncover our ears and listen to the voices of oppression; open our eyes and see the broken world around us; pull ourselves out of our comforts and offer the hope we have in Jesus, who alone has the power and authority to end oppression and let justice roll down like a river!

Partner with us in reaching out to the next generation through…

1. Prayer… Whether you are a stay at home mom, working full-time, or a student your prayers are powerful and effective. Join us at the multi-faith chaplains’ center to pray from 8:30-9:30am on January 30th and February 2nd-6th or join with us in prayer throughout the week wherever you are… The chaplains’ center is located in MSC 373, the 3rd floor of MacEwan Student Center.

Prayer Points….

1. Unity between the body of Christ on the campus. (Ps 133)

2. For God to prepare the hearts of students & faculty to hear the truth.(Ps 50:23, Isa 40:3)

3. For students to be awakened to the mission field on their campus. (Luk 10:2)

4. For wisdom and discernment for all speakers. (1Pet 4:11)

5. For students to be equipped, passionate and BOLD in extending the kingdom.

12. That seeds will be planted, watered, and people will come to Christ

The Plan: Meet at Redings at  6:00pm. We will be going tobogganing at Turtle Hill (Hawkwood/ Ranchlands area) from 6:30-8pm and will be back at the Redings for more partying from 8:30-10:30pm.

What to Bring: Warm clothes, a sled (if you have one), and a $5 gift for our fabulous gift exchange game

We are having Robert Owens from the US Every Nation family come speak to the men at UChurch this coming Friday and Saturday. We will have the privilege of hearing Robert share with us his adventures as a pastor in Reno, a Bible smuggler in Russia, a Special Forces operative for the US Army and as a Man of God who has both been mentored by many men of God and who mentors many Men of God all over the world.
