Keep reading for the most recent update from Haiti Arise – the grassroots, on-the-ground organization that YOU helped support with your generous donations:
One month has passed since the earthquake hit Haiti. Since that day, we have witnessed complete disaster, shock and despair, miraculous rescues and an outpouring of generosity and aid flowing into the long suffering nation. The Haitian people have profoundly marked the hearts of the world with their resillience and determination. We at Haiti ARISE see this as the weary nation’s opportunity to rise from the rubble, from the ashes, to become a beautiful country again. We hope that the world’s compassion will endure with us to a new day of glory.
Haiti ARISE has been working hard to meet the emergent needs of the community of Grand-Goave. We have a strategic plan subsequent to the earthquake, which has not deviated from, but has reprioritized the original vision of the ministry. James Roberts is leading our assessment team in partnership with A Better World and Hungry For Life. They are preparing to leave for Haiti on February 21 to evaluate the specific damage and needs of our community and ministry. Once they return with their report, we will mobilize teams to help in the clean-up, relief and rebuilding.
Marc Honorat, founder of Haiti ARISE, returned to Haiti on February 12th. Although he had mixed emotions about returning to an unstable environment, he was anxious to continue our work. His experience during the earthquake was quite traumatic. There have been rumors that another earthquake of the same or greater magnitude could hit Haiti in the near future. So please pray for him and all those who have endured this trauma. His time up in Canada was very profitable, giving him opportunities to share his firsthand experience with schools, churches and the media, and garner more support for Haiti. The kids and I were sad to see him go, but glad for him to get back to Haiti to help. I wish we could be by his side, but for now the kids and I will stay in Canada.
We want to thank everyone who gave to our organization within this month. All Canadian donations will doubly benefit Haiti because of government matching. However, we want to encourage you to continue giving as sustainable support will be necessary to accomplish the rebuilding efforts. Please remember to hold Haiti up in your prayers. Pray that she will rise again, that a revival will take place and that many will continue to turn to Jesus as He is ultimately what Haiti needs.
Sincerely,
Lisa Honorat, Co-Founder, Haiti ARISE
