A note about Campus Harvest Institute from your very own, Pastor Brant!

“A true first for UChurch… all 5 fold ministry gifts are coming at one time to serve us for a solid week – wow. I am just now getting the full picture of what God is doing, I pray you will not miss this moment!  Check your schedule, make room for some (or all, if you can) of this historic moment.

Hard to imagine, but it is true: next week’s Campus Harvest Institute (for 13-30 years of age) will be the first time (that I can remember) that UChurch will have the opportunity to ingest a full meal deal from all 5 equipping gifts, together at one time in an intimate setting! The fact that God has prompted them all to come serve us together at one time is amazing to me.

Let me give some backdrop first -  Paul wrote in his letter to the believers in the city of Ephesus  that Jesus gave 5 gifts to His followers – us.  These gifts (different from the Father’s gifts, or the Holy Spirit’s gifts) have a very specific purpose – The Message version of the Bible describes it well:

“Jesus handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train (equip) Christians in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church, until we’re all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to Gods Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ. No prolonged infancies among us please…. God wants us to grow up…

Jesus knew that for us to fully mature we need equipping from all 5, not just 1 or 2.  If we only receive from 1 or 2 we are missing things God wants/knows we need in order to fully mature.

These gifts always come within people who have been nurtured over many many years by the spirit of God through thousands of experiences, and all 5 are coming to us next week! Between the speakers that will be coming to Campus Harvest Institute, I estimate over 150 years of combined experience within them!  God had this week planned far in advance – for those fortunate enough to go, their lives will forever be altered!

For those who may not know the people in whom these gifts reside, let me describe very briefly a bit of each one.  Rice Broocks (apostle/evangelist) currently oversees a thriving church in Nashville with 7 locations – he came to faith on a campus and has since been taken all over the globe helping open up doors as an apostle and evangelist– in 1984 he led an outreach team to the Philipines that now has more than 20,000 in attendance.  In the late 80’s at an outreach at UBC, one student who responded to Jesus through Rice’s outreach, was the person God eventually used to start UChurch many years ago (Bert Thomson).  God has had Rice speak to more than a million people at once, and one life at a time (including me), his faithfulness has led to hundreds of churches being birthed. He has spoken with ‘kings’ and “priests’ around the globe regarding the relelavence of the real gospel.  This ‘apostle’ gift will impart to us the essence of apostolic – the faith for us all to “go” into wherever God is calling us.

Steve Hollander (evangelist) has been all over the globe as well. Steve spent 6 months with UChurch many years ago helping reach the first students for Christ who since have all continued in amazing journeys with God.  Steve will impart to us the essence that we all can be evanglesitic without being weird, helping us all break out of our self-imposed fears.

The teacher/pastor, Greg Mitchell, will train us how to correctly ‘know’ truth for ourselves, how to explain complex truths simply, and how to know and discern truth for ourselves and for others.  God’s teaching gift in Greg’s life has taken him all over the globe. He currently serves the church planted a few years ago in inner city Vancouver.

John Rohrer, has the ‘prophet gift’ – this is one  we all like to receive from, but few get a chance to be equipped by a prophet. Prophets equip us to know God’s heart, not only for ourselves (receiving words etc), but for others as well.  John has spoken to ‘kings’ and leaders around the globe. Has seen God open up nations.

Pastor Wagdi Iskander (former radical Muslim), and Al Fode (Canadian director of Ellel Ministries) will also be imparting to us that week with truths that will help us all become and make disciples who “proclaim the kingdom, heal the sick, and deliver the captives”.

Yup, a historic moment, not to be underestimated or missed. So pray, perhaps God is saying “Jump in!” Make a choice to be equipped. Spiritual growth is never automatic, it is a choice we must personally make. This is a chance to choose to step into an environment where you will be equipped! If you are between the ages of 13 and 30 (or if you behave like you’re between the ages of 13 and 30!), and sincerely want to be a vessel that God can use wherever you are, consider jumping in!”
