Many people are open to the message of the Gospel during their college years in ways that they never are again. Because of this window of openness, we believe God has called us, as a church, to the university campus. Why the campus?
Unprecedented window of Openness
The university campus is the epicenter for change, the place intended to train young men and women to impact the world. To look at the campus is to look at our future: the values on the campus become the values of society within 5 years. Our current systems of belief as a culture were first formed by the ideas that originated in the minds of instructors on the campus. If we teach that there are no moral standards in our classrooms of highest education, we should not be surprised to see lawlessness in our society. The moral standards therefore, should not decrease but increase on the campus to correspond with the expectation to lead.
Reaching Future Leaders
When you reach and train future leaders, you not only impact their lives, but all of the lives they will eventually affect. The campus has also been the birthplace for most revolutions throughout the world. At the turn of the twentieth century, college students formed the Student Volunteer Movement, which benefited much of the world. Conversely, the sexual revolution of the 1960s also started on the campus, devastating the family, leaving generations still suffering in its wake.
The World is at Our Doorstep
There is no greater opportunity to train ethical leaders than on the campus: young men and women committed to putting the benefit of others before the benefit of themselves. It is our hope to raise up leaders who will positively impact every area of society: from entertainment to government, from the business community to the athletic world.
- Because The Need is so Great. There are almost 1.2 million students on Canadian campuses with less than 80 full time campus missionaries to reach them.
- Because Universities are Boot Camps for Leaders. Over 70% of the international leaders in government and business will do some of their study in North American Universities.
- Because this is the Season Students Make Major Life Decisions. For most, decisions about relationships, location, religion, lifestyle preferences, and vocation are made in university.
- Because This Generation is Primed to Make a Difference. This generation of young people are optimistic achievers. They may be the best-educated, best-behaved adults in the world’s history.
- When We Reach a Student We Reach a Family. Nothing will speak to parents more than the transformed life of a child. When God moves in the life of a student, inevitably it touches the whole family and will also impact the families these young people raise one day.
- Because Divine Movements Often Begin with College-Aged People.
“The whole history of the Christian church tends to show the clearest vision (for changing the world) had generally come from students…” – Charles Shedd
